Favorite Character Meme

Description

After a long time of planning and wanting to, I finally took it upon myself to fill out the "Can you guess my favorite character" meme... unfortunately, I don't know who it is who created this meme, so I can't give credit, but to whoever they are, I loved the idea! This was a bit of a difficult task, having to narrow down to a top 10. Who knows, in the future I may end up redoing this, expanding it out for more, there are some characters I can't forgive myself for not including, but I tried to put it in all the most influential characters for me. To explain who these all are (for those who don't know) and why I like them, allow me to begin.

Starting from top left to right:
Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas - A very obvious addition to my list, for those who know me and an beginning to this list. The Nightmare Before Christmas has been my favorite movie of all time, though by now that can be said of many people, this movie has always been deeper to me then what most take it for. For me, the land of Halloween Town was a glimpse into my own personal psyche and many things I hold dear. I've always had a love of things that otherwise would be very dark, but are done in a very light-hearted manner and Mr. Burton is the master of doing things in that way. For me, Jack was and always will be a character I relate to, his personality, quirks, the way obsesses over things and strives for creativity make me think of myself. Every one of his songs has reminded me of myself to a tee at several points in my life and I had to put him in.

Usopp from One Piece - What has quickly become my favorite series of all time, ever since his debut, Usopp has had a place in my heart. Though there may be some characters in the series I actually like more, I still say Usopp is my favorite, due to longevity and due to his character. Managing to be comic relief but with heart to him, he seems to have them most depth to him of any of the main crew. Despite his off the wall humor and lying, he has a real sense of honor to him and his using story telling as a means of lightening a mood reminds me of myself. He's also a character that I enjoy, because despite what he looks, if he's pushed too far he can seriously kick ass! I drew him in his Skypiea outfit because for whatever reason I've always my favorite of his looks.

Link(s) from The Legend of Zelda - A bit of a no-brainer for those who know me. The Legend of Zelda has been my favorite video game series for some time and I've always loved and respected it's main hero, the proverbial character representing "extraordinary things are done through ordinary people" I've always really loved and respected heroes who aren't all powerful and rather humble... however, with the recent split in looks for the series I was torn between which Link to focus on, the more mature, realistic, gritty one... or the young, cartoon-like cheerful one... in truth, I like both equally and couldn't have one without the other. For the look formed by Twilight Princess, I like a darker edge to the series and making Link look more the part... not mention he's hot as all holy hell in that version! XD As for the look formed by Wind Waker, I've always found him to be the most adorable thing ever, and I loved the look and feel of it, making the character seem that much more unassuming and unfit for what he's doing.

Knuckles the Echidna from Sonic the Hedgehog - Another obvious character to be added, for those who know me. Ever since his debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 I've had an obsession for this character. I don't fully know why... I suppose just the way he looks, honestly, I don't have much else to say. I'm sure there's respect for his devotion to his cause, as well as liking his humorous hard-headedness as well as his rivalry towards Sonic... but in the end, I just like him! XD

Glenn (a.k.a. Frog) from Chrono Trigger - Ahh... Glenn... now here is a character I've idolized for years! If ever there was a pure example of an awesome hero for me, it was Glenn. Overlooking my like of frogs and huge swords as is, Glenn's overall stout, chivalrous persona, mixed with just a bit of gloominess and self-loathing, added in with his awesome theme made for an amazing character to me. He was a true example of overcoming adversity and fighting for what you believe. I've always held chivalry very high in my mind and he was a character who personified that for me and in many ways helped me character some of my own characters. Needless to say I rarely switched him from my party in that game XD

Bottom left to right:
Popeye the Sailorman - For as long as I can remember, Popeye has been a hero of mine from a very early age. Perhaps it was his funny design, or his voice that drew me to him, but all around it was how bad ass he is! Another character of high moral and strength, though a bit more uncouth than others, I always admired his "I y'am what I y'am" outlook on life and adopted it for myself, as well as his rough attitude and inability to accept anything he saw as wrong, often solving it with his fists. Maybe not the best of methods, but sometimes palookas need to be taught a lesson.

Faust from Guilty Gear - A bit more of a new addition, I loved the look and feel of Guilty Gear as a whole, but what truly grasped me was the character of Faust, who I immediately fell in love with. His hilarious, unexplained, crazy and just a bit creepy actions and movements made him irresistable to me... not to mention the giant scalpel! I also enjoy the slight depth to him, trying to make amends for his bloody past and now fighting to save lives at all costs, makes for a good character, though at the end of the day, I just like him because he's funny!

L from Death Note - I know... I know... EVERYONE likes the character, but hear me out! Unlike most who just fall blindly into the love of Death Note, L is a character who truly grasped me as a character. As is, I have 4 posters, a figure and plush and a bed spread with him on it, so suffice to say, there's a love there. I fell in love with his bizarre quirkiness, but in so many ways he reminds me of myself, suppose I sympathize with his lack of social grace and awkwardness. I love all his weird mannerisms but the best thing of all, is his unfaltering view of justice. I agree whole heartedly with his techniques. Much like L or Rorschach of Watchmen I feel that all crime is to be destroyed by justice and by any means necessary. I also share L's childish traits of hating to lose and his intense love of candy. All around, L was someone I related to and love for that reason, not just because he's on a bandwagon right now.

Quina Quen of Final Fantasy IX - Ahh... Quina... though The Legend of Zelda wins as my favorite video game series, Final Fantasy IX will forever be my favorite video game of all time and will always be my opinion of what an RPG should be. In that respect, it's almost hard for me to pick a true favorite character from that game, however, the character of Quina has always caught my attention, I suppose due to the sheer absurdity of the character! It's bizarre look and demeanor, how it has so LITTLE to do with the plot, how it literally had no gender, how it eats things to gain skills and how shockingly it's an incredibly powerful character (IF you know what you're doing) because of his I've always loved the character of Quina and could not deny it it's rightful spot on this list.

and last but not least Kenny McCormmick from South Park - I don't know what it is... perhaps just my love of characters with hidden faces or just his general demeanor and how you can't understand what he says... or his bad habit of dying, but I've ALWAYS loved Kenny. Even LONG before I was into the show or even watched it, period, I have adored Kenny! Not much else I can say, something about him as gripped me, I've always had a love/hate feeling towards him always dying... it's funny... but I immediately miss him afterwards! My heart broke when he was removed from the series for a short while, but his grand return made me sing~

So, there you have it, not sure if I'll update this later or not, but it was fun to do and I liked shedding some light onto the things I love and that have inspired me. So, enjoy~
