#27: "Evil" Cartman - South Park

Ahh... remember back when South Park was a show starring four little children in a crudely animated town that was always plagued by the paranormal and worked off that premise as a basis of humor, keeping itself irreverent and off beat? You know, instead of being based off what a couple guys read in this week's current events and saying it was stupid while forcibly shoving Butters into your face all the time?

Alright, before I go any further let me just say I don't dislike South Park at all. I still find the show to be hilarious and it'll forever be a big part of my childhood (as wrong as that really is) I'll always remember my younger days, going to my friend's house to watch it because I couldn't at my own, but enough walking down memory lane. While I still find South Park to be funny, it's undeniably changed to a point that I honestly can't say is for the better. While their social satire is witty and hysterical, it leaves every episode dated as it's based on anything that's just happening in the media. To the point that no episode is really "original". Some episodes I'll see and thing it's just their own idea and find it funny, then come back to watch it again only to realize it was just based off something I didn't know at the time. While they manage to put a unique spin on it it's really kind of sad...

And like I said... Butters. Fucking Butters. Again, I don't dislike him! I actually enjoy him as a character but I'm extremely tired of him being so over used. I miss when the focus was on Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny, not Butters and Randy... sometimes Cartman, but WHO CARES BUTTERS! But I feel this way anytime a fan favorite slowly absorbs the entirety of a series just to gather more ratings. Like what I mentioned about StrongBad in Homestar Runner. He was my favorite character, but I miss seeing other characters. South Park was home to a massive array of funny, quirky characters and they just slowly died away.

In my heart I'll always like it best when it was just based off the town being weird as opposed to bitching about the news. Now to get back to the matter at hand, today's entry is the "Evil" Cartman, for those who recall the old, old episode. I've always loved the concept of having the "evil clone" that is actually the nicer version of the already established character and what better character to show that on, then the insidious little bastard that is Eric Cartman! A hilarious idea and probably one of the best examples of the older style of South Park I prefer. I didn't draw this image in "Spooky Vision" like in the original airing of it's episode as I knew the face of Barbara Streisand would be too much for some of you more feint of heart!
