#8: Mega Banette

"A cursed energy permeated the stuffing of a discarded and forgotten plush doll, giving it new life as Banette, it is known to live in the garbage in which they were thrown away and wander at night looking for the child who cast it away; they can use the dark energy that created them to cast curses by sticking pins into their own bodies, however it is said that the dark energy that creates this Pokémon would escape if it's mouth were ever unzipped."
Banette is one of my all time favorite Ghost-types, in fact for a brief time I think it was my all-time favorite one but I can't fully recall or what changed that. Fact is, Banette's pretty badass and it deserves nothing less than an honorary spot among the Top 10, if not higher. While I think Ruby/Sapphire had some very off putting designs, it's small contribution to the Ghost-type community was definitely well received by me and really how could I not? They captured some spoopy aesthetics I really like, especially the possessed doll route. Evil puppets and voodoo dolls have always been a like of mine for horror stories if only because they're so outright disturbing and Banette boasts a really unique design to keep that vibe going.
Admittedly, I feel nothing for Shuppet, I've always found it bland and basically looks like a more masculine version of Misdreavus and to be frank I think I may like it better if it was... then again I dunno, that big point on it's head always throws me off... like it's has a weird growth, or there's a phantom hand underneath that sheet flipping us off. However, what we're talking about today is 'MEGA' Banette, you'll notice I stated that specifically for this entry. Why? Because Mega Banette is the fucking shit! Honestly I think if any one Pokemon benefited the most from a Mega evolution, it's Banette. While I love Banette, I'll be the first to admit that it falls a bit into obscurity, whether it be to lukewarm stats or being unable to keep up with the times with newer evolutions, whatever the case this sad little puppet needed something else to give it some spice. Mega Banette was that spice! Honestly, the stats isn't even anything I take into consideration, it's just the all around look, to the point that I'm really upset the Mega Banette isn't just a new third evolution, because I want one all the time. It just took an already good design and beefed it up so much I couldn't help but fangasm a bit over it when I first saw it. GameFreak, ya done good this time.
Also... yeah, definite proof of the Pokedex being full of shit, because thanks to Pokemon-Ami I have seen my Banette's mouth willingly unzip and open to eat and no demon spirit flew out. I'm beginning to think the Pokedex is just a pack of lies, maybe I shouldn't rag on all these clearly dark entries... maybe all these things are totally well meaning and the Pokedex is just a lying, racist scumbag who hates on the darker types of Pokemon. For shame Pokedex... for shame...
